Review: Akira suffers from a loss of childhood memories, but with the help of his friends he is still able to live a normal high school life. However, his peaceful life suddenly changes after Mina Tepes starts to approach him. She is what appears to be the princess of all vampires and she is about to not only reveal the existence of vampires to the general public, but also with the help of her enormous financial backings create an independent city at the coast of Japan for vampires to gather and live in peace. As Akira spends more time with Mina he remembers he is from a werewolf clan serving under her and his memories slowly begin to return. Unfortunately the society of vampires isn’t as simply as to simply follow through with Mina’s goals and ambitions, so it seems Akira will have a lot of work on his hands.

As a fan of the manga this anime is based on, I found the alterations Shaft made to the plot in the first episode to be rather absurd and unfitting. Luckily the following episodes compensate with high animation quality and a more down-to-earth plot. It’s an anime recommendable to all vampire/action/fantasy fans.

Gakuen Mokushiroku: Highschool of the Dead – Anime Review

highschool of the dead
Review: For the students of Fujimi High School it all started with a weird looking man standing at the front gate on a sunny spring day. Only moments later he mercilessly murdered and infected most of the students with his zombie virus of unknown origin. The few, who stick together to survive, soon realize that this is a problem of global proportions.

At first glance High School of the Dead is an action based zombie anime with much fanservice and little story. On a second glance however, the breathtaking animation quality, astonishing music and character developments make this anime into something worth recommending especially due to the lack of bloody adult action anime recently. It’s questionable however, if that can compensate for the overuse of fanservice and some rather weird, crappy and unrealistic scenes where you have to wonder whether or not this is unintentional humor, or maybe rather clever humor designing a ridiculous scene in a serious way, while it is really meant as a joke (either way I had to laugh hard many times). All in all it is done decently well and I enjoy it even more than the original manga it is based on.

Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou – Anime Review

Review: Sai Akuto thinks of himself as a very caring and helpful person. His biggest dream is to graduate from Constan Magical Academy and become a high priest. An occupation only those with the purest hearts can follow. Yet, unexpectedly on his first day on oracle that predicts the future occupation of the first year students tells him that he will be the Demon-Lord; a being feared in the past for its enormous power und cruelty. With that said, it seems like there will be only those who seek him for power and those who avoid him in fear. Or maybe not…?

It’s rather hard to figure out what to think of this anime. At times it seems like it’s just another poor school comedy story with plenty of fan service; yet at times there seems to be a solid story with action and excitement. Same as the genre seems to switch constantly, the overall quality has its ups and downs as well. As of now I will keep watching, but am unsure what to expectof this anime.
