Ikkitousen: Dragon Destiny – Anime Review

Tuesday, 2 November, 2010

Review: Dragon Destiny is the continuation of the first Ikkitousen anime. This time we get to see the further story focusing on different fighters attending different schools. Be prepared for the next round of this ecchi action fighting spectacle presented in a better animation quality and a more mysterious atmosphere. Some people criticize this show for featuring even more fan-service and ecchi content than the first season, while not offering any deeper story at all. Personally I don’t see the apeal in this show as well, but as it gets more and more sequals, there got to be fans who watch this.

Nodame Cantabile – Anime Review

Tuesday, 2 November, 2010

Review: Shinichi is the top piano student at his university and is popular among the other students. His goal however is to become a famous conductor. For this goal he’d be better off studying in Europe, which is impossible for him because of his deeply rooted fears about travelling. After being constantly annoyed by his teachers and dumped by his girlfriend he meets Nodame. Nodame is an easy going girl who just happens to have been living next door all the time. She has the talent to play songs on her piano after just listening to them once. As Shinichi discovers her messy apartment and lifestyle he finds himself taking care of her again and again. Watch them grow as people and musicians.

The awarded manga this anime is based on also had a very successful TV drama adaptation. Being animated by the same company who was responsible for Honey&Clover there can be found many similarities in comedy and characters. You don’t have to be interested in classical music to get into this show. It’s a story of life, love, comedy and dreams.

Naruto Shippuuden – Anime Review

Tuesday, 2 November, 2010

Review: After more than a year of filler stories the Naruto anime finally returns to follow the original manga story line again and with that this show also got a fresh new name.
The story is set two and a half years after Sasuke left to seek power from Orochimaru. Sakura is now training with Tsunade to become a medical ninja and Naruto is training with Jiraiya so that he will be able to confront Sasuke, Orochimaru and Akatsuki. Therefore all 3 of them are now training under one of the Legendary Sannin. Now that Naruto returns to Konoha many things have changed, but all in all everyone is still the same. Even though Akatsuki is on the move now, he still does not forget his original goals to become Honkage and bring back Sasuke.

I gladly admit that Naruto Shippuuden has fully lived up to my high expectations. Animation quality is fine again and we get to see the dramatic action adventures that we were used to. But it probably won’t take long before the story catches up to the manga, at which point there will be bad scripted filler stories again.

Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpuchou – Anime Review

Tuesday, 2 November, 2010

Review: This anime takes place in current-time Tokyo. However, this Tokyo is being attacked by grotesque monsters and demons. Hiyu Tatsuma just recently transferred to Magami Academy and makes contact with different students possessing mysterious powers. They intend to defend their city and friends.

The dark and brutal atmosphere same as the interesting powers of the main characters are the strong points of this anime. Animation quality and character design are decent. All and all it seems to be an interesting show for all horror/action fans.

Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight! – Anime Review

Tuesday, 2 November, 2010

Review: In future Japan birth-rate has dropped rapidly. In addition to that many children don’t see the point in going to school and just start working. As a result many schools are being closed due to lack of students. Amamiya Manabi is a cheerful and energetic girl who just recently transferred to Seiou High School. She has her own unique straight forward way of doing things and she is determined to enjoy her school life.

Manabi Straight! is a funny school story with lively, cute and enjoyable characters, which makes it interesting for all moe-fans. It doesn’t focus on a solid and developing story, but rather on enjoyable characters and good comedy (kind of similar to the Azumanga Daioh anime). It’s a fun show and worth watching for what it is.

Shuffle! Memories – Anime Review

Tuesday, 2 November, 2010

Review: This is the continuation or rather a recap of Shuffle (08.07.2005 till 06.01.2006). Gods and Demons came to the human world and started to peacefully live together with humans. We get to see Rin and all the girls in a new light with lots of new scenes and background information. Naturally those who liked the Shuffle season 1 will like this series as well. Since the first season was pretty much concluded I’m not exactly aware of the reasons why it was decided to make a second season, other than the first season’s great success, but it’s still a great show I guess.

Kyoushirou to Towa no Sora – Anime Review

Tuesday, 2 November, 2010

Review: Shiratori Kuu is a pretty but rather shy high school girl. She often has the same dream of a beautiful prince asking her to come along with him. Unexpectedly this prince in fact appears in front of her as a new transfer student and just like in her dream he asks her to come along with him. She also meets a mysterious and beautiful girl with golden hair, who seems to have some connection to that prince. While Kuu still don’t quite get what’s going on, she gets involved in their battles and reveals her own special powers.

Kyoushirou to Towa no Sora has many similarities to the Kannazuki no Miko anime. However, the fighting and mecha animation is much better and fairly unique compared to other mecha anime shows. Still, some people might think that a lot of the characters are over-stylized with prince and princess themes. At this point the plot still has great potential, but might as well fail for being plain and too cliché.
